Since we all know our Super Badminton plyer Saina Nehwal. I thought to share little more information on Badminton governing body and the major tournaments happening across the year internationally.
BWF stands for Badminton World Federation. It is the governing body of the Badminton world. So what exactly BWF does?
Well… It does many things as:
- Organizes many world class Badminton events
- Monitors, Works on building Rules and Regulations in Badminton
- Promotes and popularizes the sport
All these functions are carried out in cooperation and collaboration with regional governing bodies.
These regional governing bodies are spread across:
- Oceania (Australia and New Zealand)
Since 2006, headquarter of the BWF is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The vision of BWF is
“Giving every child a chance to play for life”.
There were few earlier versions of the BWF logo but the one with red triangle and word BWF written in it is the recent one.
The MetLife BWF World SuperSeries is consisting of 12 tournaments. Only the top 32 world ranked players singles (Men’s and Women’s) and doubles (Men’s, women’s and mixed) are eligible to play these tournaments.

The top eight players from these SuperSeries tournaments qualify and compete for the year ending destination Dubai – The SuperSeries Finals.
