South Asian Games also known as SAG is a multi-sports event. It was the year 1984, when Nepal hosted the very first South Asian Games and since then after every two years games are held with few exceptions in the past.
As we all know sports is the good way to boost up the team spirit. These games are doing the same and thus it helps to strengthen the relationship among the South Asian Countries.
2016 SAG and India the Host country
This is the 12th edition of South Asian Games. This is the third time India is hosting the event. It is really a proud moment for all of us to showcase and bring out the best as a Host. The events are hosted at beautiful cities of North East Guwahati from Assam and Shillong, Meghalaya. The event started on 6th February 2016 and is going to conclude on 16th February 2016.
These SAARC countries are participating in the event.
- India – Host
- Sri Lanka
Ek Prithibi Ek Krirangan meaning the world is a playground is the theme song for this edition of the SAG. Listening to it definitely lifts your mood. The beautiful theme song was written by late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. He was an Indian musician, lyricist, singer, poet and a film maker. He was from Assam.
It consists of 8 petals representing the 8 participating nations. These petals are filled with the respective nation’s flag colors.
The cub rhino ‘Tikhor’ the mascot of this event is a motivator and the messenger of peace, progress and prosperity.
Star Players from Indian side
There is a star studded affair from India. Many Star players as Gagan Narang, Vijay Kumar, Apurvi Chandela, Heena Sidhu, Joshna Chinappa, Sarita Devi, Shiva Thapa, and Saketh Myneni participated in the games.
India put on the good front and earned the highest number of medals. I felt little sad as we couldn’t win the Gold in Hockey as well as Football and lost to eventual champions Pakistan and Nepal respectively. Today evening is going to be special one as there is a great performance of dance and music for the closing ceremony.
