Korea open 2016 badminton super series tournament is concluded recently at Seoul, South Korea. This is Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) eighth super series tournament. Do read my earlier post on BWF here.
Well… Koreans took all the trophies in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles event while men’s single title went to Quia Bin of China and Japanese young sensation Akane Yamaguchi won the women’s singles championship.
More than anything else this tournament will be remembered for the retirement of Korean men’s doubles specialist Lee Yong Dae. This was his last tournament of his career. One thing I am still not getting, why on earth at the mere age of 28 he wants to retire? Especially when veterans like Lin Dan and Lee chong Wei are still there and going so strong. Lee Yong Dae holds the world number one ranking in doubles. He has won olympic medals in mixed and men’s doubles events. I do wish him all the best for his new plans and future. Winning the Korea Open is perfect bid adieu for this Korean Hero!
Do watch out for Denmark open super series tournament from 18th October 2016 on wards. Thank you.
